A world changing

Grieving a world that is changing

Grief is not only for people. Many of us are losing a way of life, and it needs the same attention.

A different kind of loss

Grief is usually talked about as losing a person. But many men are also losing something harder to point at: the work they knew, the main street they grew up on, the way people used to talk to each other, the sense that they understood how the world worked.

Why it deserves attention

I believe the changes now are unprecedented, and that they are arriving faster than most of us can digest. When something big ends, grief is a reasonable response, even if nobody has died.

Naming it helps. "I miss how things were" is not weakness, and it is not a refusal to move on. It is honest.

Then, now, and what comes next

Looking back is allowed. The useful part is taking the best of then, being honest about now, and choosing what to carry into the future. Take the best bits.

What this guide will not do

It will not tell you the world is ending, and it will not tell you everything will be fine. It does not forecast. It gives the feeling some time and attention.

Talk it through

The SI guide can help you think about your own version of this. It is not James, and not a professional of any kind.
