The account
He believes grief for a changing world deserves time too.
James Roberts, Tenerife. One man's position, stated so you can weigh what the rest of the site says.
Who he is
James Roberts, born in Manchester in 1976. Nearly twenty years in travel and hospitality recruitment, latterly running a firm of twenty. He has interviewed and met men all over the world through wars, recessions, a financial crisis and a pandemic.
He drank daily from eighteen to forty-five, went into residential treatment in June 2020, and has not drunk since. He moved to Tenerife that December and ran a small BnB there for five years, which he sold.
What he is not
He is not a bereavement counsellor, a therapist or a clinician, and he holds no qualification in any of it.
What he has observed
Men tend to carry grief rather than feel it, and it comes out sideways later.
A whole industry can end and rebuild in a working life. People grieve that too, quietly.
What helped most men was one person who listened without trying to fix it.
I believe the changes now are unprecedented and need attention and time.
Observation from one vantage point, not a law, a framework or a prediction about you.
Talk it through
The chat is an SI (super intelligence) guide written in James's voice. It is not James replying live.
